iPhone Case Review: Hitcase Offers Photo Lenses & Leather Luxury

I love the juxtaposition of the latest technology with traditional luxurious materials. That's why I'm drawn to leather smartphone cases. But the folks at Hitcase sent me the Ferra iPhone Case ($59.99) and it goes the extra mile. In addition to leather (black or light brown) the case also has stainless steel accents, for the volume buttons, logo, and surrounding the camera lenses. That last part is important, because Hitcase adds its own bit of technology to each case.

Hitcase offers what it calls TrueLux lenses, with Wide Angle, Macro, and SuperWide as options, including a bundle of all three for about $100 or around $40 for each. These attach to the Hitcase cases to give you some great photography and videography options. But when you don't want the bulk, you can put those lenses in your gadget bag and enjoy a slim, stylish, yet still protective case.

The Ferra case is particularly  slim and while they claim to be drop proof, I would like to see more coverage at the bottom where the speaker and Lightning port are. Still, if you really want protection, combined with the lens system, Hitcase does offer more rugged options, including a waterproof model! That's important, because even though Apple claims the latest phones are water resistant, they can be damaged by submersion, and Apple does not cover water damage, as my daughter found out the hard way.

Pros

  • Combination of leather and stainless steel
  • Compatible with Hitcase lenses
  • Black or brown options
  • Other models for more protection

Cons

  • Gap at the bottom by the speaker and Lightning port

Final Verdict

The Ferra iPhone Case from Hitcase is a nice mix of luxury and technology that can improve your photos.
