How to Add Widgets on iPad Today View

What are widgets? Widgets are the bigger icons that help you get information from your apps at a glance. For example, a Weather widget will show you the weather right on the home screen or Today View so that you don't need to open the app. We'll cover how to add, remove, and customize widgets in your Apple Today View.

How to Delete and Add Widget to iPad Today View

Widgets have seen significant updates with iPadOS 15, including the option to add widgets to the iPad Home screen in addition to the Today View, so you will need this version or later to follow the steps below. Here's how to add and remove Apple and non-Apple widgets from the Today View on your iPad.

  1. From your first Home screen, swipe right to open the Today View

  2. Scroll to the bottom of the Today View and tap Edit

  3. To remove a widget, tap the minus icon

  4. To add a widget, tap the plus icon

  5. Tap the app you wish to add a widget for. 

  6. Swipe through the icon sizes to select the one you want. 

  7. Tap Add Widget

  8. To add a widget for a non-Apple app, scroll to the bottom of the Today View in Edit mode and tap Customize

  9. Tap the minus icon to remove a non-Apple app from the Today View. 

  10. Tap the plus icon to add a non-Apple app to your Today View. 

  11. Tap Done to exit the Customization menu for non-Apple apps.

  12. Tap Done to exit edit mode. 

How to Customize iPad Widgets in Today View

Once you decide which widgets you'd like to have in your Today View, you can also move widgets to be higher or lower in your list and further customize specific widget displays. Here's how: 

  1. To edit the customizable display settings for a widget, press and hold the widget you want to edit. 
  2. Tap Edit Widget and adjust the specific widget settings. (If this option does not appear, it means this widget cannot be further customized.)

  3. To have a widget display higher or lower in your Today View, press and drag a widget up or down the widget list.

  4. To move a widget out of the Today View and onto your Home screen, press and drag a widget to the right. 

  5. Tap Done
