How to Set Limits for Specific Apps in iOS 12 with Screen Time on iPhone

If you've been frustrated with your inability to stop wasting time on your iPhone, iOS 12 has just the features you need to combat technology addiction. The new iOS update comes with Screen Time, a set of tools that track how much time you spend on your device in general, as well as on particular activities, sites, and apps. If you've been wanting to spend less time on Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, or any other addictive app, read on to learn how to use Screen Time to set an amount of time per day that you'd like to limit yourself to for specific applications on your iPhone.

  • Open the Settings app.
  • Scroll down and tap on Screen Time.

  • Tap App Limits.
  • Tap Add Limit.

  • Tap the categories you'd like to limit, then tap Add.
  • Select the amount of time per day you'd like to limit yourself to, then tap Set. Keep in mind that these choices cover the total time spent on all apps in each category; for Social Networking, the Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest apps are included on my phon. You may have more apps in this category.

  • You'll be given a warning before you reach your daily limit, and a notification when you've used up your allotted time. If you want to keep using the app, tap Ignore Limit.
  • Now you'll be given the choice of staying on the app for 15 minutes or receiving no further reminders for the day. You can go back and change these limits later if you like.
